Governor supports Illinois Legislature's passage of right-to-sexual-orientation bill       Send a link to a friend

[JAN. 12, 2005]  SPRINGFIELD -- Statement from Gov. Rod Blagojevich on the passage of Senate Bill 3186, amending the Illinois Human Rights Act to ban discrimination based on sexual orientation:

"I congratulate members of the Illinois General Assembly for approving legislation that will finally protect Illinoisans from discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. I would like to commend the sponsors of this important legislation, Senator Carol Ronen and Representative Larry McKeon, for all of their hard-fought efforts."

"This truly is a landmark day in Illinois. This legislation sends a clear message that we will not allow our citizens to be discriminated against. I look forward to signing this bill."
