State driving enforcement correlated to lower traffic fatalities       Send a link to a friend

District 9 statistics for June

[JULY 29, 2005]  SPRINGFIELD -- Illinois State Police District 9 has released enforcement figures for the month of June.

Capt. Dennis Sloman, District 9 commander,  reports that district troopers handled 125 crashes during the month. Police agencies in the district reported four traffic fatalities during the month of June. Statewide during the month of June there were 118 provisional traffic fatalities reported. This is 12 fewer fatalities than the 130 reported for the month of June in 2004.

Troopers made 24 DUI arrests and 71 other alcohol arrests, including illegal transportation, illegal possession and illegal consumption of alcohol by minors.

Traffic enforcement statistics show a total of 1,786 traffic citations and 1,775 written warnings were issued to motorists during the month. A total of 622 citations were issued for speeding and 522 for failure to wear seat belts, including 21 child safety seat violations.

Troopers provided roadside assistance to 417 motorists.

District 9 troopers made 82 criminal arrests during the month of June. Of the 82 criminal arrests, 20 were wanted on outstanding warrants, 18 were for possession of a controlled substance or possession of drug paraphernalia, 11 for illegal entry into the United States, two for obstructing justice and one for burglary.

Sloman reminds motorists that June, July and August are the top three months for traffic fatalities in Illinois. Stay safe by following the traffic laws, never drink and drive, and always buckle up!
