To the editor: Many are aware of the Lincoln AMVETS post's project
to install personalized granite bricks at the city's All Veterans
Park. Great thanks go to the selfless handful who are helping with
this project and the many more (over 1,600 so far) who have
sponsored bricks. Unfortunately, we are forced to ask the community
for help of a totally unexpected sort.
At least twice that we know of, individuals have seen fit to try
to pry bricks loose in order to relocate or remove them. Both
attempts resulted in damage to the targeted bricks and to those next
to them. One successful relocation required that we go back and
relocate a number of other bricks because groupings rightfully
requested by sponsors were disrupted. We have worked hard to group
certain names together when those requests were made before laying.
Later regrouping is difficult at best and can be done only in
extreme cases.

Please, do not tamper with this memorial to those who have
sacrificed so much for our nation and our community. It is
disturbing that anyone would have so little regard for such a
hallowed location. Or, maybe some of us just need to remember to
think before we act.
Anyone with a question about the placement of bricks can call
648-2023 and ask for me.
