[JUNE 22, 2005]  SPRINGFIELD -- The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum announced June 14 that the 100,000th visitor entered the museum since it opened to the public on April 16. Cindy Loeffelholz of Springfield was bringing a group of family and friends through the museum when she was greeted by museum officials to make the announcement. Her visitors were in town from Florida.

"The success of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum brings pride to the entire state of Illinois, especially Springfield, the place Lincoln considered home," said Gov. Blagojevich. "Bringing history to life, the museum is attracting visitors of all generations to learn more about Abraham Lincoln and his legacy. In less than two months, the museum has welcomed over 100,000 visitors, and I believe the success will only continue to grow as word travels about this amazing institution."

"It is extremely encouraging to welcome over 100,000 visitors to the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum in less than eight weeks," said Richard Norton Smith, executive director of the presidential library and museum. "The feedback from people coming from near and far is overwhelmingly positive, and we believe the word of mouth will continue to spread, attracting friends and families from all over the country and parts of the globe. The museum will also bring return visitors for special events, educational programs, speaker series, guest lectures and our temporary exhibits. With the tourist season just under way, we hope for even bigger numbers ahead."

Loeffelholz received a gift bag that included museum gift shop items donated by the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation.

The 100,000th visitor announcement was made during the Illinois Bureau of Tourism 2005 Road Show, which provides members of the tourism industry an opportunity to hear industry updates and the 2004 visitor and economic impact numbers.
