Antique car club to host summer nights out on downtown Lincoln square Send link to a friend

[MARCH 10, 2005]  Owners and spectators of classic cars or just anyone looking for a nice evening stroll to see neighbors downtown will have four great opportunities this summer and early fall. The fourth Saturday in May, June, July and September the Railsplitter Antique Auto Club will host an open cruise-in from 5:30 to 9 p.m.

Organizers have determined that the autos don't have to be preregistered; they can just show up. So every month could bring a new mix of vehicles to the downtown square.

James Loeffler petitioned the city for use of one block of Kickapoo Street between Pulaski and Broadway streets -- the northwest street bordering the Logan County Courthouse. He hopes the monthly event will catch on and there will be need to request use of the south side of Sangamon Street for parking the cars as well.

Loeffler said the club is doing this to benefit the downtown.

There will not be a gathering in August due to the Lincoln Art & Balloon Festival.
