Human remains discovered south of Springfield

[MAY 25, 2005]  DIVERNON -- Partial human remains were discovered east of Interstate 55 near Divernon at approximately 8 p.m. on Monday. Illinois State Police and the Sangamon County Sheriff's Office conducted a search of a wooded area on Tuesday using Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services and a cadaver dog.

No identification of the remains has been made, though it believed to have been a woman. The legs had painted toenails.

The investigation is ongoing and no further information is available at this time.

Divernon is about 13 miles south of Springfield.
