LINCOLN -- The Logan
County Board bid a kindly farewell to board member Gloria Luster at
last Tuesday’s meeting. Board member Paul Gleason read a resolution
honoring Luster’s accomplishments during her board tenure that was
from June 21, 2001 to Sept. 30 2005. Luster was the first female to
hold the position of vice chairman of the board and did so twice, he
said. She served on various committees showing strong leadership as
the chairman of the legislative committee, “a committee that
requires much diligence in meeting the county’s insurance needs,”
Gleason said. She served on other committees displaying hard work
and enthusiasm and most recently the liquor committee. She was also
liaison to the Logan County Health Board. She continues to serve as
an appointee to that board.
When Gleason finished board chairman Bob Farmer
presented Luster with a plaque commemorating her service and a
wrapped gift.
Luster responded to a request from county clerk Sally Litterly for
some words of wisdom. Luster quipped, “Don’t go over 55 [mph] and
don’t go over the top ring of the ladder.” Chuckles and exchanges
between board members indicated some personal the meaning and
understanding behind these chosen words.
Then getting serious she said, “Be yourself. That’s how I got into
this.”
After opening the personal gift, a bundle of cut twigs that seemed
to relate to the ladder comment, she and every one laughed.
“We’re just glad you’re ok,” Litterly said.
With tears in her eyes that turned contagious in the room, Luster
said, “I just want to thank all of you. I had a great time.”
