Illinois Symphony to present 'The Red Violin'

[NOV. 10, 2005]  SPRINGFIELD -- The Illinois Symphony Orchestra will perform its third Masterworks concert of the season, "The Red Violin," on Nov. 18 in Bloomington-Normal, at Braden Auditorium on the campus of Illinois State University, and on Nov. 19 in Springfield, at Sangamon Auditorium on the campus of University of Illinois at Springfield. Musical performances begin at 8 p.m. and are preceded by conductor Karen Lynne Deal's concert comments at 7:15 p.m.


Rachel Barton Pine

Masterworks 3 will feature violinist Rachel Barton Pine performing John Corigliano's "Chaconne," from "The Red Violin," as well as Tchaikovsky's Concerto for Violin, Opus 35, in D major. This is Ms. Pine's second performance with the Illinois Symphony Orchestra. In 2001, she performed Samuel Barber's Concerto for Violin, Opus 14, with the orchestra. Also on the program is the Double Concerto for Strings, Piano and Timpani by Bohuslav Martinu.

Single tickets in Bloomington are $35 and $30 and can be reserved by calling Braden Auditorium at (309) 438-5444. Single tickets in Springfield are $35, $30 and $25 and can be purchased by calling Sangamon Auditorium at (217) 206-6160.
