Animal control seeking new warden

[NOV. 17, 2005]  On Tuesday, the Logan County Board approved the appointment of Maurice Tierney as deputy warden at Logan County Animal Control.

The board's animal control chairman, Vickie Hasprey, received resignations from Vickie Loafman, the former warden, and Kelli Jackson, the deputy warden, on Nov. 1.

Loafman and Jackson left the facility in the late afternoon that Tuesday. Hasprey said that she, animal control administrator Dr. Les Thompson and Tierney filled in for them over the next few days and have continued to help as needed. The part-time staff also rotated shifts to help out. The staff was still able to answer calls.

The facility was not open to the public on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons that week. That was so they could still care for the animals. The effect was that there were no adoptions on those three afternoons. Since then the facility has been in full operation.

Applications are still open for the warden position. Hasprey has called a special committee meeting for Monday to review the warden applications.

In addition to the change in personnel, Thompson reported that pit bulls that mauled a 7-year-old boy have been euthanized.
