Robert Merreighn

LINCOLN -- Robert F. Merreighn, 85, of Lincoln died Wednesday, April 5, 2006, at 1:50 p.m. at Maple Ridge Care Centre.

His funeral was Saturday morning at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln, with Vicar Michael Stock and the Rev. P. Ronald Schmidt co-officiating. Visitation was on Friday at the funeral home.

Burial, with military rites, was in Zion Cemetery.

Mr. Merreighn retired from Myers Industries in 1978. He had worked in shipping and receiving.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was born March 16, 1921, in Moline to Zoanney and Bessie Freeman Merreighn. He married Alice Bowman on Dec. 4, 1954, in Lincoln.

He is survived by his wife, of Lincoln; two daughters, Jan (and Bob) Hashman of Lincoln and Christina Merreighn of California; one brother, James (and Janet) Slazwitz of Wyoming, Ill.; one sister, Dorothy Levi of Chatsworth, Calif.; two grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren; and one great-grandchild and one step-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one son, Robert E. Merreighn; three brothers; and one sister.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Lincoln and a 60-year member of American Legion Post 263.

Memorials may be made to the building fund at his church.
