Slack, a 6-foot-7, 210-pound forward, joins junior college teammate
Keith "Boo" Richardson, Dominitrix Johnson, Osiris Eldridge and
Bobby Hill in one of the most talent-laden recruiting classes in
Redbird basketball history. Slack, along with Richardson, led the
Red Ravens to a 33-5 record this season and a seventh-place finish
at the national junior college tournament. Slack finished the event
as a member of the all-tournament team after averaging a
tournament-best 11 rebounds per game and 21.5 points per game, which
ranked third at the event.
"Anthony is a high-energy, extremely athletic, long four-man,"
Moser said. "He's a phenomenal rebounder and a terrific offensive
rebounder. He plays the tempo that we want to play with and runs the
floor really well. He's also a winner. Both he and Boo come from a
program where winning is a premium.
"Anthony continues to get better and better, and he showed that
with what he did at the national finals. He was one of the most
impressive players at the national tournament. To finish our class
off with a player like Anthony makes this recruiting class something
special."
Slack finished the season averaging 11.6 points and 9.0 rebounds
per game. He also totaled a team-high 93 blocked shots and 55
steals, while shooting 60.8 percent from the floor. He also ended
the year by claiming all-Jayhawk Conference and all-Region VI
honors.

"Illinois State was just the right fit for me," Slack said. "I'm
looking forward to having the chance to play with Boo for another
two years. The coaching staff was real friendly and genuine, and I
just liked the environment surrounding Illinois State. I really
liked the campus, the arena and the community, and I'm looking
forward to playing for the Redbirds.
"I will bring a lot of intensity and hard work to the floor, and
I will do everything in my power to help my team win," Slack said.
"I have always been a shot blocker, but now I'm an all-around
player. I can step out and shoot it, and I also like to bang down
low."
In his two seasons at Coffeyville, the Red Ravens compiled a
59-12 record and won two conference championships. Slack was also
recruited by Bradley, Creighton, Missouri State, TCU, Georgia and
UNLV. As a prep at John F. Kennedy High School, Slack was
predominantly a defensive player and was honored as the team's
defensive player of the year after his senior season. In addition,
he owns the school record with 18 blocked shots in a single game.
Slack and Richardson will become Illinois State's first set of
junior college teammates since Steve Finch and the late Reggie
Wilson, who both played at Lincoln Junior College prior to playing
for the Redbirds during the 1991-92 season.
