KANKAKEE -- Esther Irene Schmidt, 88, formerly of Springfield, died Monday, April 24, 2006, at 12:07 a.m. at Riverside Medical Center.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski, with the Rev. Kevin Treptow officiating. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Mount Pulaski Cemetery.

Mrs. Schmidt had been an Extension adviser for the University of Illinois Cooperative Extension Service of Sangamon County.

She was born April 19, 1918, in Ames, Iowa, to Ryman and Meriam Baur Smith. She married Wilbur Schmidt in Winterset, Iowa, on Sept. 7, 1946. He died Oct. 19, 1980.

She is survived by two daughters, Vicki (and John) Dekker of Kankakee and Sue (and Randy) Krnac of Plainfield; one son, Carl (and Theresa) Schmidt of Carbondale; one sister, Frances Ohrvall of Independence, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Staci Krnac of Plainfield, Julie (and Aaron) Jones of Carleton, Mich., Chad (and Heather) Krnac of Plainfield, A.J. Dekker of Champaign, Lea Dekker of Kankakee, Ry Schmidt of Carbondale and Carson Schmidt of Carbondale; and four great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one sister, Phyllis Veline, and one grandson, Patrick Dekker.

She was a member of Woodside Methodist Church of Springfield

She was a volunteer at Sangamon State University and at the state Capitol building in Springfield.

Madeline Tabor

ATLANTA -- Madeline A. Tabor, 91, of rural Atlanta, died Sunday, April 23, 2006, at 9:37 a.m. at BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Atlanta United Methodist Church. Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Steve Anderson officiating.

Burial will be in Funks Grove Cemetery, rural McLean.

Quiram Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Mrs. Tabor was a homemaker.

She was born March 4, 1915, at rural McLean, to Albert B. and Mary B. Kindred Atchison. She married Edward Tabor on Feb. 28, 1934, at Lewistown. He died July 23, 1983.

She is survived by her children, Eugene Tabor of Armington, Kenneth (and Mary) Tabor of Dwight, Duane (and Sandy) Tabor of Atlanta, James (and Brenda) Tabor of Creve Coeur, Karen (and Bill) Horn of Atlanta, Lyle (and Ruth) Tabor of Congerville, Judith Ann (and Russell) Cook of Beason and Mary Ellen (and Rick) Stevenson of Atlanta; nine grandsons; nine granddaughters; 31 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

She was a member of the Atlanta United Methodist Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to her church or to the Atlanta Public Library.

Edna Merold

LINCOLN -- Edna Lorene Merold, 90, of Lincoln died Saturday, April 22, 2006, at 11:07 a.m. at Vonderlieth Living Center in Mount Pulaski.

Her funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln, with the Rev. Rich Reinwald officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be in New Union Cemetery, Lincoln.

Mrs. Merold had worked for Lincoln Garment Factory and Lehn & Fink. Later she was a school crossing guard at Washington-Monroe and other Lincoln schools.

She was born June 30, 1915, in Lincoln to Cornelius and Anna Wilmert Leesman. She married Glenn F. Merold on Dec. 25, 1935, in Lincoln. He died Dec. 4, 1999.

She is survived by one son, Ronald (and Loretta) Merold of Mount Pulaski; one daughter, Donna (and James) Settles of Springfield; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Leroy Leesman and Virgil Leesman, and one sister, Ruby Leesman.

She was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, the Charity Guild of the church, Christian Seekers and AARP.

Norma Morris

LINCOLN -- Norma E. Morris, 90, of Lincoln went home to be with the Lord and her husband, Otis, at 8:50 a.m. Friday, April 21, 2006. Her family was by her side at home.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bennett Funeral Home, with Pastor Tony Shuff officiating. Visitation will be from 10 until 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Richmond Grove Cemetery, New Holland.

Mrs. Morris was a homemaker, raising her four children and taking care of her beloved husband.

She was born Nov. 1, 1915, in Mount Pulaski to late Oscar and Ida McCain Shull. She married Otis Morris on Oct. 6, 1935, and they shared 70 years of marriage. He died Feb. 15, 2006.

She is survived by two sons, Ken (and Carole) Morris of Marquette, Mich., and Wayne (and Nancy) Morris of Lincoln; two daughters, Shirley (and Jim) Barry of Lincoln and Kay (and Bob) Bauer of Lincoln; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Garland and Gerald Shull, and her sister, Pauline Brown.

She was a loving woman who never hesitated to help those who needed it. She raised her family with good values and taught them about the Lord. Her legacy will live on in the lives of her children and grandchildren. She will be missed, but today she and Otis are dancing in the glory of the Lord.
