Sunday dedication of Veterans Honor Roll enjoyed        Send a link to a friend

To the editor:

Sunday, April 23, saw a gathering of veterans, their friends and family members under beautiful skies at All Veterans Park on Union Street in Lincoln. The occasion was the dedication of nearly 2,000 engraved granite bricks, each dedicated to the individual sacrifice of a past or present soldier, sailor, airman or marine with ties to this community.

The turnout was fabulous. Veterans attended from throughout the state and the keynote speaker was Mike Dawson, commander of the AMVETS Department of Illinois. Mayor Beth Davis also spoke. The event was an unqualified success.

AMVETS Post 71 thanks all those who attended and all those who have sponsored these special bricks thus far and reminds everyone that sponsorships are still available. Call 732-8829 for information.
