Harley 'Pete' Petersen

[DEC. 6, 2006]  ATLANTA -- Harley Ray "Pete" Petersen, 68, of Atlanta died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2006, at 4:02 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

His body was cremated.

A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home, with the Rev. Richard Reinwald officiating.

Burial will be in Atlanta Cemetery at a later date.

Mr. Petersen retired after 25 years of service with the state of Illinois as an officer at Logan Correctional Center. He was previously employed by Sears, Roebuck and Co. in Lincoln and in Saginaw and Cadillac, Mich.

He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years, stationed in Germany and Africa.

He was born July 29, 1938, in Gary, Ind., to Alfred and Dorothy Byers Petersen. He married Gloria Sage on June 24, 1961, in Saginaw, Mich.

He is survived by his wife, of Atlanta; one son, Todd (and Patty) Petersen of Litchfield; two brothers, Robert Petersen of Florida and Kenneth Petersen of Colorado; two sisters, Carol Bogard and Lois Sigler, both of Michigan; and four grandchildren, Lucas, Lydia, Trisha and Zachary Petersen.

He was preceded in death by one son, Steven Petersen; his parents; and one brother, Donald Petersen.

He was a member of AFSCME Council 31, Local 2073. He was an emergency medical technician with the Atlanta Rescue Squad for many years. He also sang with the Lincoln Area Chorale for several years. He attended Eminence Christian Church.

He graduated from Cadillac High School in Cadillac, Mich.

Memorials may be made to the Atlanta Rescue Squad.
