Bunnie Murphy

[DEC. 11, 2006]  CHESTNUT -- Bunnie L. Murphy, 80, of Chestnut died Friday, Dec. 8, 2006, at 6:55 p.m. at Vonderlieth Living Center in Mount Pulaski.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski.

His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Pulaski Christian Church, with Jeremy Thomason and Roger Murphy officiating.

Burial, with military rites, will be in Laenna Cemetery.

Mr. Murphy retired from Kaiser Agricultural Chemical after 25 years as a fertilizer plant manager.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was born Jan. 18, 1926, in Decatur to Bunn H. and Irma Weatherly Murphy. He married Betty J. Young at Gays on Sept. 12, 1947.

He is survived by his wife, of Chestnut; three sons, Roger L. (and Rexanna) Murphy of Oklahoma City, Okla., Alan R. (and Maryan) Murphy of Chestnut and Gregory L. Murphy (and Martha Rehder) of Chestnut; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

One brother, Gerald Murphy, and one sister, Bonita Watts, preceded him in death.

He was a member of Mount Pulaski Christian Church and Chestnut-Beason America Legion Post 848.

He was president of the Beason-Chestnut Water District, assistant fire chief for the Chestnut Fire Department and worked for Aetna Township. He served on the Chestnut school board, Laenna Cemetery board and Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital board.

He graduated from Sullivan High School in 1944.

Memorials may be made to Chestnut Rescue Squad or Mount Pulaski Christian Church.
