LINCOLN -- Florence M. Ackerman, 76, of Lincoln died
Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006, at 9:40 p.m. at Maple Ridge Care
Centre.
No visitation is scheduled. Cremation rites have been
accorded.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at New
Union Cemetery.
Peasley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She was born July 24, 1929, in Logan County to Carl and
Lena Skonetski Ramlow. She married William A. Ackerman on
Dec. 28, 1947, at Emden. He died June 15, 1986.
Mrs. Ackerman is survived by her daughter, Mary (and
husband Jerry) Berglin of Lincoln; three sisters, Martha
Mosier and Ruth Ackerman, both of Lincoln, and Lena Ingram
of Broadwell; one brother, Donald Ramlow of Lincoln; two
grandchildren, Jeramy (and Kim) Berglin of Lincoln and
Carrie (and Greg) Fletcher of Quincy; and four
great-grandchildren, Lane and Jake Berglin of Lincoln and
Paige and Nicole Fletcher of Quincy.
She was also preceded in death one son, Paul Ackerman,
and one brother, Carl C. Ramlow.
Mrs. Ackerman was a member of the First United Methodist
Church of Lincoln.

VNA Hospice of Illinois, 720 N. Bond St., Springfield, IL

Jerry Phelps

LINCOLN -- Jerry Edward Phelps, 60, of Lincoln, formerly of
Greenville, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006, at 3:40 a.m. at his
home.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Camp
Butler National Cemetery, Springfield. Casey Tygrett will
officiate.
There will be no visitation
Arrangements are by Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home
in Lincoln.
Mr. Phelps had been a machinist at Trouw Nutrition in
Highland.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
He was born June 12, 1945, at Highland to Norman and
Gladys Hall Phelps. He married Nancy Stanberry on Sept. 2,
2004, in Lincoln.
Survivors include three stepdaughters, Rhonda (and Mike)
Karr of Mason City, Dawn (and Kurt) Banister of Mason City
and Tonya (and Cole) Warnisher of Lincoln; one stepson, Troy
(and Heather) Stanberry of Mason City; his aunt Evelyn
Breuer of Greenville, who raised him; a cousin, Carol Breuer
of Greenville; four brothers, Lester (and Eleanor) Phelps of
Lake Worth, Fla., Richard (and Karen) Phelps of Smithton,
Mike (and Deda) Phelps of Centralia and Jim (and Beth)
Phelps of Woodlawn; and 11 stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.

 Norman Pence

LINCOLN -- Norman Edward Pence, 88, of Lincoln died
Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006, at 2:15 a.m. at Abraham Lincoln
Memorial Hospital.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. A Masonic
service will follow at 7 p.m.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader. Chaplain Todd Phelps will
officiate.
Burial will be in New Union Cemetery.
Mr. Pence had been a freight and passenger conductor for
the GM&O Railroad
He was born Sept. 21, 1917, at Girard to Dock W. and
Clara Dittman Pence. He married Edna Mae Davis on Sept. 16,
1940, at Palymra, Mo. She died Nov. 16, 1990.
He is survived by two sons, Dr. Norman Eugene Pence of
Westminster, Colo., and Thomas Steven (and Midge) Pence of
Rockford; one daughter, Deanna Lee (and Ed) Voyles of Beason;
two sisters, Joan Noud of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Ione Rich of
Wood River; three grandchildren, Brian Voyles of Beason,
Lori Birnbaum of Lincoln and Thomas Jacob Pence of Boulder,
Colo.; two great-grandchildren, Avery and Samuel Birnbaum,
Lincoln; two stepgrandsons, Mike Lewis of Centralia and
Mitchell Lewis of Rockford; two stepgranddaughters, Angela
Lewis Tucker of Champaign and Val (and Jeff) Mammen of New
Holland; two step-great-grandsons, Kieffer Lewis Tucker of
Champaign and Emmery Mammen of New Holland; and two
step-great-granddaughters, Addy Lewis Tucker of Champaign
and Emma Mammen of New Holland.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Eugene
Eldon Pence, and brothers-in-law Joseph Noud, Lavern Rich,
Darrell Davis and John Davis.
He was a 26-year member of Fraternal Order of Eagles 2708
in Lincoln, a 60-year member of Wade Barney Masonic Lodge in
Bloomington, a 40-year member of the Ansar Shrine in
Springfield and a member of the Logan County Sheriff's
Auxiliary.
Memorials may be made to the Logan County Sheriff's
Auxiliary.

 Wayne Febus

MOUNT PULASKI -- Wayne Bryson Febus, 80, of Normal died
Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006, at 6 a.m. at Leroy Manor in Leroy.
A graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mount
Pulaski Cemetery, with Cynthia Pace and Dr. William Linneman
co-officiating. Military rites will be accorded.
There is no visitation.
Arrangements are by Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home
in Mount Pulaski.
Mr. Febus taught at Normal High School for a few years,
until he was appointed to be the first building inspector
and zoning officer for the city of Normal. He finished his
working years in private construction as foreman of working
crews.
A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he served in the
Pacific Theatre from June 1944 through July 1946.
He was born Dec. 11, 1925, at Lake Fork to Clyde and Mary
Bryson Febus. He married Jeanne Howe in Lincoln on Sept. 3,
1950.
He is survived by Jeanne, his wife of 55 years, of
Normal; one daughter, Cynthia (and husband Dino) Pace of
Elgin; one sister, Waneta (and husband Tom) Stephens of
Mount Pulaski; one niece, Lisa (and husband Bob) Brown of
Mount Pulaski; one nephew, Harry W. (and wife Valera) of
Sherman; and his best friend, Ted the cat.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was a member of Lake Fork Christian Church, Mount
Pulaski VFW and Mount Pulaski American Legion.
He attended Lake Fork School, graduated from Mount
Pulaski High School and graduated from Bradley University in
1953 with a degree in building trades.
He was a gardener, a staunch Republican and was happiest
when he was covered in sawdust.

HARTSBURG -- Kiya Renee Hassebrock, 5, of Hartsburg died
Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, at 9:10 a.m. at St. Louis
Children's Hospital.
Her funeral was Wednesday morning at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln, with the
Rev. Mark Carnahan officiating.
Visitation was on Tuesday at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader and one hour prior to the service on
Wednesday.
Burial is in New Union Cemetery, Lincoln.
Kiya attended an early childhood program at Jefferson
School in Lincoln.
She was born Sept. 22, 2000, in Lincoln to Michael and
Andrea Smith Hassebrock.
She is survived by her father, of Lincoln; her mother, of
Hartsburg; one sister, Nicole Fenner of Hartsburg; one
brother, Jaxon Hassebrock of Hartsburg; maternal
grandparents Patsy Sheese of New Boston and Kenny and Pat
Smith of Lampe, Mo.; paternal grandparents Edward and Wanda
Hassebrock of Lincoln; maternal great-grandmother Donna
Lakin of Brownstown; and paternal great-grandfather John
Hassebrock of Lincoln.
She was preceded in death by maternal great-grandparents
Ben and Zelma Smith, Mary "Doodle" and James Anderson, Ben
and Zelma Smith, and Curt Lakin; and by paternal
great-grandparents Mabel Hassebrock and Frank and Betty
Short.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln.
