ATLANTA -- Marvyn B. Smalley, 88, of Atlanta died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2006, at 12:30 a.m. at Maple Ridge Care Centre in Lincoln.

His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Quiram Funeral Home, with the Rev. Steve Anderson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in Atlanta Cemetery.

Mr. Smalley was a retired farmer. He had farmed in the Atlanta area all his life.

He was born Dec. 30, 1917, in Eminence Township, rural Atlanta, to Harvey J. and Grace Irene Baker Smalley.

He is survived by one brother, Robert Dale Smalley of Lincoln, and several cousins.

He was a member of the Atlanta United Methodist Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Atlanta Public Library or a charity of the donor's choice.

Herbert Rogers

EMDEN -- Herbert J. "Herb" Rogers, 88, of Emden went home to be with the Lord at 11:05 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, 2006, from the Christian Village in Lincoln.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Bennett Funeral Home, 620 Pulaski St. in Lincoln. His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Casey Tygrett officiating.

Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery.

Mr. Rogers was a full-time farmer on the family farm at Emden and also found time for many other activities.

He was born July 3, 1917, at Delavan to Jonathan Oscar and Pansy Pearl Smallwood Rogers. He married Nelda May Harms on Sept. 14, 1945, in Emden.

He is survived by his wife, of Emden; two sons, Mark Rogers of Emden and Matthew (and wife Kimberly) Rogers of Woodridge; one sister, Mary Glen Schilling of Mount Pulaski; a brother-in-law, Roy O. Schilling of Decatur; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Wayne Rogers; one sister, Rachel Schilling; and one daughter, Melody Hufnagel.

He was an active member of Emden Christian Church, where he served on the church board and as an elder and trustee. He was a trustee for Lincoln Christian College for many years, served on the board of Christian Homes and on the steering committee for the Christian Village, and was on the Camp Griesheim board and the board for the Central Illinois Evangelistic Association. He served as president of the Hartsburg-Emden school board. He was a member of the Illinois Guernsey Cattle Club and the Logan County Farm Bureau.

Even in his busiest times, he always made time for his family. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, dedication and Christian beliefs that is evident in the lives of his family and friends.

Memorial donations may be made to Lincoln Christian College, the Christian Village, Wayne J. Schall Hospice or Emden Christian Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Loranzie 'Mac' McCawley

LINCOLN -- Loranzie Dow "Mac" McCawley, 78, died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2006, at 10:29 a.m. at Maple Ridge Care Centre.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jame Hahs officiating.

Burial will be in Zion Cemetery.

Mr. McCawley was an order filler for Caterpillar in East Peoria when he retired in 1981.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was born Feb. 26, 1927, at Eighty Eight, Ky., to Loranzie D. and Bertie Huff McCawley. He married Florence Simpson on Jan. 2, 1951, at Edmonton, Ky.

He is survived by his wife, of Lincoln; one son, Robert McCawley of Columbus, Ind.; three daughters, Barbara Hattabaugh of Columbus, Ind., Merna (and Ron) Lichtenwalter of Lincoln and Julie (and Joe) Maltas of Chatham; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six sisters; two brothers; one son, Gene McCawley; and one grandson, Michael Maltas. He was the last of his immediate family.

He played guitar and sang with many local bands.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

McLEAN -- Estell Coyle, 92, of McLean died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2006, at 6:45 a.m. at ManorCare Health Services, Normal.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the McLean Christian Church. His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, with Kenneth Smith officiating.

Burial will be in Funks Grove Cemetery, rural McLean.

Quiram Funeral Home, Atlanta, is handling arrangements.

Mr. Coyle was a retired farmer.

He was born Jan. 13, 1914, at Gravel Switch, Ky., to James T. and Grace Coyle. He married Hazel Southerlan in 1934. She died Dec. 18, 1995.

He is survived by one son, Gerald "Butch" (and Mabel) Coyle of McLean; two daughters, Connie (and Ron) Bryant of McLean and Bonnie Coyle of Bloomington; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Hazel Southerland of Kentucky.

He was also preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

ATLANTA -- Glenn W. "Tex" Brooks, 84, of Atlanta died Friday, Feb. 10, 2006, at 12:30 p.m. at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Mo.

Visitation was on Monday at Quiram Funeral Home, Atlanta.

A graveside service was Tuesday morning at Atlanta Cemetery. Andy Glass officiated, and military rites were conducted by the Atlanta American Legion Gresham-Crutchley Post 341.

Mr. Brooks was an Army veteran of World War II.

He was born March 23, 1921, at Morgantown, Ky., to Ord and Eliza Austin Brooks. He married Mary Love on Aug. 11, 1943, at Mount Pulaski.

He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Glenda (and Curt) Bietz of Four Seasons, Mo.; one grandson, Jonathan (and Ellen) Bietz of Burkburnett, Texas; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Edna Gaither of Atlanta; two brothers, Herman Brooks of Atlanta and Kenneth Brooks of Lincoln; and several nieces and nephews.

Two brothers, Charles and Harold Brooks, and one grandson, Matt Bietz, preceded him in death.
