SPRINGFIELD -- The 50th District is slated for
$5,669,000 in road construction for fiscal 2007, reports state
Sen. Larry Bomke, R-Springfield. The funding is part of the Illinois
Department of Transportation's $10.425 billion six-year road
improvement program.
Bomke said the focus of the highway improvement program is to
maintain the state's current highway system. Of the $1.975 billion
fiscal 2007 road program, funds have been allocated for six local
projects throughout the 50th District. Long term, the road plan has
designated 53 projects to be completed between fiscal 2007 and 2012,
covering 41.37 miles of road at a cost of approximately $77.5
million.
"Any road fund money will greatly benefit the community in terms
of reducing congestion and improving the area's transportation
infrastructure," said Bomke. "While I am disappointed that the 50th
District seems to have once again received very little in road fund
dollars, I'm pleased that the FY 2007 projects will be financed
using existing state revenues and can be completed without the state
borrowing any additional money."
The new state road program includes $7.085 billion in federal
funds, $2.695 billion in state funds and $645 million in local
money.
