[JAN. 20, 2006]  The top three finishers in a geography bee at Zion Lutheran School in Lincoln were Scott Carnahan, second place; Matthew Schierer, third; and Josh Jordan, champion. The bee was sponsored by the National Geographic Society.

All students in grades 4-8 participated in a preliminary round. Students with the top 10 scores advanced to the school’s final round. Competing in the final round were eighth-graders Scott Carnahan, Bryce Hunsley, Josh Jordan and Devin Pegram; seventh-graders Leah Lockenour, Joseph Mangano and Emily Rossetti; sixth-graders Ethan Hartman and Matthew Schierer; and fifth-grader Grace Sheley.

Josh, the Zion champion, has taken a state-level test to determine state competitors. All school winners are eligible to win the national championship and its first-place prize, a $25,000 college scholarship, at the national competition May 23 and 24 in Washington, D.C.
