Lincoln speech team tackles Downers Grove Tournament

DOWNERS GROVE -- The Lincoln Community High
School speech team placed two events in the semifinals at the
prestigious Downers Grove Tournament this past weekend. Tony Curcuru
and Annie Sheley advanced to the semifinal in humorous duet. Janel
Filbeck advanced to the semifinal in oratory and then to the final,
where she placed third.

"This tournament is always a tough one, and we really didn't get any
breaks," said Carrie Schreiber, a coach for the Lincoln team. "We
had hoped for more in the semifinals and had about six additional
events that, had they gotten the breaks, would have been there. We
are happy for the two events that advanced." This weekend Lincoln
will host its annual tournament, which is the last regular meet of
the year before the team enters the state series the following week.
