[Copy of June 16 letter to David Meister, president, and school
board members]
Re: Tina Rogers-Smith
Please allow this letter to serve as notice that I will be
stepping down as school board member for Mount Pulaski Unit District
23, effective immediately. Due to the increasing demands from my
job, I am no longer able to serve the communities in our district on
the board. At this time, a majority of my time is spent in the
Chicagoland area, making it very difficult to attend board meetings.
This, coupled with disappointments I have felt in the actions of the
board, is the reasoning behind the resignation.
I feel this board has attempted to use intimidation to the
Elkhart community and Elkhart board members in trying to force them
to disband a community organization. I feel that the actions of the
board reflect a vindictive nature of which I can no longer be a
part.
This has nothing to do with the moving of the junior high from
Elkhart itself, but has much to do with the actions leading up to
the decision, and certainly the actions since. This board has an
unwillingness to listen to points of view that don't match their
own. The job of the board is to make informed decisions, attempt to
be objective in hearing other points of view, and respond to the
needs and concerns of all citizens in our district. My view is that,
as a board, there was absolute failure in that department.
[to top of second column in this letter] |
I personally was VERY disappointed in the recording of the
meeting minutes, which I find wildly inaccurate in both omissions
and completeness. My voice as a board member was not heard or
recorded accurately in the minutes, and others as well; yet, there
seems to be no consequences or actions taken to correct.
As a taxpaying citizen, I have a right, as does every taxpayer in
the district, to have access to school financial information. We
should be able to request that information WITHOUT coming under
scrutiny, badmouthing or delay. All of which happened!
Although I could continue with scrutiny, I will end this letter
with a thank-you and a "Good luck."
Tina Rogers-Smith
