Local business community and volunteers help make CIEDC and Lincoln Kiwanis Summer Day Camp a success          Send a link to a friend

Dear Editor:

On behalf of CIEDC, I would like to thank the following individuals and businesses that contributed in any way to our CIEDC-Kiwanis Summer Day Camp June 26-30. The summer day camp serves 20 area low-income children from the ages of 6-10 for one week in the summer.

Thanks to Kickapoo Park for accommodating us at your facilities. Thank you to Joel Beard at Domino's for opening your doors to us during hours you are usually closed. We appreciated the tour and appreciated you letting us make our own pizzas and donating soda for lunch. Thank you to McDonald's for your gift of snack cookies. Thank you to Wendy's for the delicious Frostys. Thanks to Russell Stover Candies for being so open for us to go to your store for a tour and to participate in decorating cookies. We really look forward to your hospitality every year. Thank you to Roy Logan at the Rec Center for allowing our campers to swim at a reduced fee. They all enjoyed their time there and we appreciate your generosity. Thank you to Charlie Lee at IGA for the donation of snack items. You are always so good to us and we appreciate it very much. Thank you to Kroger for the gift card that allowed us to purchase juice boxes for the children. Thank you to NAPA Auto Parts for your donation. Thank you to Mel-O-Cream and Casey's for the breakfast items. The community support was wonderful, and without your generosity we could not have had such a successful camp.

Thank you to the following staff for all your donations or help for our camp: Kathy Shepherd and Kelly Comerford for donating gifts for our icebreaker activity, Marcia Phillips for sewing our camp bags. Thank you to Amy Shreve and Jann Danosky for taking time from your summer schedule to help as needed. Thank you to the Head Start program for allowing us the use of your bus. Thanks to the teen volunteers and summer workers that helped all or at least part of the week: Kayla Jenkins, Vince Ingram and Sean McIntosh. You all helped the children have a great week.

Special thank you to Darla Buss for giving us so much time out of your summer schedule and contributing in such a huge way. Camp could not have been so successful without you.

Much appreciated thanks to the Lincoln Kiwanis organization and other monetary donors. Without your monetary support every year local children could not have a fun week of camp.

Sincerely,
Cathy McIntosh, CIEDC and Kiwanis Summer Day Camp director
