LINCOLN -- Anthony J. "Tony" Vespa, 100, died Sunday, June 4, 2006, at 3 p.m. at St. Clara's Manor.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Peasley Funeral Home, following a prayer service at 4:45.

A funeral Mass for Mr. Vespa will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church, with the Rev. R. Anthony Lee officiating.

Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mr. Vespa owned the Lincoln Wholesale Paper and Candy Company from 1949 until 1971.

He was born June 3, 1906, in Riverton to John and Mary Cicci Vespa. He married Mabel Clements on Nov. 9, 1938, in Springfield. She died Feb. 1, 2000.

He is survived by his two children, Anthony "Tony" (and Beverly) Vespa of Richardson, Texas, and Teresa (and Maurice) Tierney of Atlanta; one brother, Vincent Vespa of Springfield; one sister, Josephine Vespa of Springfield; three grandchildren, Jennifer Conway of Fairview, Texas, Annette Conner of Japan and John Tierney of Joliet; and three great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by three sisters, three brothers and one daughter, Annette Crowell.

He was a member of Holy Family Church and was the oldest member of the Lincoln Knights of Columbus Council 1250.

Memorials may be made to Carroll Catholic School or Holy Family Church.
