Lawrence Gleason

ELKHART -- Lawrence P. Gleason, 86, of Elkhart died Friday, March 3, 2006, at 10:15 a.m. at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Peasley Funeral Home in Lincoln, following a prayer service at 4:45.

The funeral Mass for Mr. Gleason will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Church in Lincoln, with the Rev. R. Anthony Lee officiating.

Burial, with military rites, will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Lincoln.

Mr. Gleason farmed at Elkhart.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was born April 23, 1919, at Lincoln to Harry and Genevieve Rose Haller Gleason. He married Leona C. Martin on Dec. 14, 1940, in St. Louis, Mo. She died Jan. 10, 1991.

He is survived by one son, Lloyd (and Linda) Gleason of Broadwell; a daughter-in-law, Sandy Gleason of Lincoln; five grandchildren, Troy (and Sharon) Gleason of Lincoln, Tracey Gleason of Broadwell, Dana (and Kenton) Oliver of Springfield, David Gleason of Lincoln, Russell (and Dawn) Gleason of Lincoln; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one son, Lawrence K. Gleason.

He was a member of Holy Family Church and VFW Post 1756, both in Lincoln

LINCOLN -- Edna Marie Luthe, 93, of Fenton, Mo., formerly of Lincoln, died Thursday, March 2, 2006, at 6:35 p.m. at Delmar Gardens Nursing Home in Fenton.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln, with the Rev. Mark Peters officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in Zion Cemetery.

Mrs. Luthe was a seamstress for McDonald Douglas Aircraft.

She was born Sept. 8, 1912, in Lincoln to August and Anna Krueger. She married Haldon Luthe in 1957 in Shelbyville.

She is survived by caregivers Sonny and Anna Marie Noonan of Fenton, Mo., and several nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Ronald; three brothers, Martin, Edwin and Oscar Krueger; and one sister, Jennie. She was the last of her immediate family.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

John West

LINCOLN -- John Stillman West, 81, of Lincoln, formerly of Mount Pulaski, died Thursday, March 2, 2006, at 12:30 a.m. at Vonderlieth Living Center in Mount Pulaski.

Visitation was on Friday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski.

His funeral was scheduled for Saturday morning at Trinity Episcopal Church in Lincoln, with Father James Cravens officiating.

Inurnment is at the church.

Mr. West was an elementary teacher in Mount Pulaski for 26 years and coached basketball at the school. He also taught and coached at Waverly.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946.

He was born Aug. 23, 1926, in Mount Pulaski to Gordon Stillman and Marguerite Anderson West. He married Jacqueline Berrydate on Aug. 23, 1952, in Springfield.

He is survived by his wife, of Lincoln; one daughter, Elizabeth (and Jim) Holtzman of Redmond, Wash.; one brother, Gordon West; and two grandchildren.

He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and the vestry of the church. He was also a member of Lincoln Elks Lodge 914, Mount Pulaski American Legion Post 447 and the South Side Club. He was a former board member of Mount Pulaski Savings and Loan and Tomlinson Charitable Trust. He served as a Mount Pulaski city councilman.

He officiated high school and college basketball in Illinois. He was also a crop and hail adjustor.
