To the editor: It seems that there is some disagreement in your
town about the racetrack at the fairgrounds. Please don't be blinded
by a few people who want to see the racetrack empty.
Now while I don't agree with all things that the new owners want
to implement, mostly the switch from Sundays to Saturdays, please
don't discourage the racetrack from operating. Local dirt track
racing is a dying breed. Any dirt track lost is another devastating
blow to a sport that many love.
Did you know that auto racing is the No. 1 in-person spectator
sport in the country? Do the residents of Lincoln realize the
distances that people travel to Lincoln to race or watch racing? I
know for a fact, drivers and fans from my area went to Lincoln many
times last year. Also, one driver who raced at Lincoln came from
northern Iowa. We racers and race fans stop at your gas stations,
stay at your motels, eat in your restaurants (Steak n Shake always
for me) and stores.

As stated before, I would personally rather see the track operate
on Sunday evenings rather than Saturdays, therefore allowing area
racers and fans a third night of action and less competition for
other, already-established area dirt tracks. I know from my
standpoint and other racers and fans in this area, a switch to
Saturday would lessen the chance for a trip to Lincoln for racing.
Whatever is decided, please don't let it be closing of the
racetrack.
