[MAY 23, 2006]  PONY Recreation League baseball season for 13- and 14-year-olds began Monday evening with two closely contested games.

In the first game, Hartem defeated Leake Antennae in a 9-8 come-from-behind victory. Jason O'Brien was the winning pitcher, working three innings in relief and striking out nine while walking one. At the plate, Craig Johner was 3-for-3 with two doubles, and Devon Swart was 2-for-3. O'Brien, Will Cross and Zach Bennis each had a hit for Leake. Mason Musick had an inside-the-park home run.

In the second game, Steak n Shake defeated Klemm Tax Service 14-10. Alex Schonauer was the winning pitcher, and Tanner Smith notched the save. At the plate, Conner McQuellon was 2-for-2 and scored four runs. Zach Toft was 3-for-3, with three triples, three runs scored and three RBIs. Schonauer helped his own cause, going 2-for-2 with three RBIs. Others with base hits were Kyle Shanle, Smith and Derrick Grieser. Josh Mote and Ryan Leesman were both 2-for-2; while Nick Jones, Corbin Leith and Chris Davis also had hits for Klemm Tax Service.
