This will be the closest I come. My parents always tried to teach
me that if I didn't have anything good to say about something or
someone, then I shouldn't say anything at all. I haven't always
followed that rule, but I try to when it comes to writing about the
Lincoln Lady Railers.
Unfortunately, there is very little good to say about last
night's sectional volleyball match between Lincoln and Bloomington
High School. So, I can't say much. But I will say a little.
Here is the little.
Lincoln started the first game well. The Lady Railers found
themselves up by a score of 6-2. A soft tip from Jamie McFadden put
the Railers on the scoreboard first. A nice double block from
Meyrick and McFadden put the Railers up 4-1. Another kill from
McFadden and a touch shot by Meyrick gave the Lincoln crowd
something to cheer about as the Railers went up 6-2. At this point
it appeared that the Railers might extract some revenge for previous
losses to BHS. Appearances are not always accurate. This one turned
out to be a mirage.
At 6-2, six consecutive errors by the Railers put them down 6-8.
Thankfully, Bloomington returned the favor by making the next five
errors to give the lead back to Lincoln at 11-8. The teams exchanged
points over the next few minutes, and when the scoreboard read 15-16
in favor of Bloomington, Lincoln's coach Howe called timeout.
Timeout was again called at 16-19 to hopefully stop the bleeding.
Unfortunately, it did not. Serve-receive and setting problems doomed
any chance of a happy ending for the Railers as Bloomington's score
rose to 24. Two plays later game one ended at 25-14.

I am just not going to discuss the second game of the match at
all. It wouldn't be helpful for the team and it would only make the
fans relive it. That couldn't be good for anyone's mental health.
Suffice it to say that the Railers… well… they just weren't able to
do anything right. Enough said. Final score, 25-12.
The Lady Railers end their season at 25-11-2 and as regional
champions. We say a heartfelt goodbye and best wishes to the
seniors, Natalie Boward and Katie Conklen.
As for me, I may or may not continue to write these articles next
year for various reasons. I will wait and make a final decision
before next season starts. Any input from those of you who read
these articles (and I have no idea who most of you are) might be
helpful at this time. If you want to comment and tell me to "keep on
writing" or to say "good riddance," that would be fine. Either way,
it has been my privilege this year (and for the last six before
that) to get to write about a high school I love and some young
women I greatly respect and admire. Thanks, ladies. You are the
best! Continue to excel in all you do this year and always.
GO, RAILERS!
