[OCT. 11, 2006]  CARLINVILLE -- Laura Reeter, a senior outside hitter from Mount Pulaski, is enjoying an outstanding season for the Blackburn College volleyball team.

The unquestioned go-to player in the Blackburn offense, Reeter has a team-high 161 kills on the season for Blackburn, which had a 5-5 record through Oct. 3, and is second on the team in digs, with 129. She stepped up to record a team-high 19 kills in Blackburn's sweep of Robert Morris, an NAIA program, on Sept. 7.

Reeter also came up with 14 kills and eight digs to lead Blackburn to a three-game win at Westminster on Sept. 16 before driving home a career-high 24 kills to go along with 12 digs in a five-game victory against Greenville on Sept. 19. In addition, she pounded out 15 kills and added 19 digs in a five-game win over NCCAA power Lincoln Christian on Sept. 23 and led Blackburn with 17 kills in a three-game sweep of rival MacMurray on Oct. 3. In addition, Reeter leads Blackburn in service aces with 17.

A transfer from Lincoln Land Community College, Reeter is a 2003 graduate of Mount Pulaski High School, a traditional power in IHSA Class A volleyball. An honorable mention all-St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selection a year ago, she is the daughter of Randy and Sue Reeter.

Reeter's head coach at Blackburn is Kim Fraser, an experienced leader who has a long resume of success. Fraser came to Blackburn after five seasons as head volleyball coach at the University of Illinois-Springfield, where she guided the Stars to a 117-79 record. UIS received national NAIA ranking in three of her five seasons. Prior to that, Fraser served from 1994 to 1998 as head volleyball coach at Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield, where she led the Loggers to a 138-93 mark and three appearances in the postseason playoffs.

Fraser has also experienced success in coaching volleyball internationally. In 1995, she led the Illinois Volleyball All-Stars on a tour of Australia, compiling a 10-2 record on the trip.

Fraser also serves as head softball coach at Blackburn, is the school's senior women's administrator and is a faculty member in the Blackburn Physical Education Department.

Founded in 1837, Blackburn College is a four-year, Presbyterian-related, co-educational liberal arts college located 40 miles south of Springfield. The college is one of six "work program colleges" in the nation, with students required to work in jobs instrumental to the college's daily operations. The work program receives widespread recognition in American higher education and helps to keep Blackburn's tuition the lowest of all private colleges in Illinois and among the lowest in the United States.
