Visitation will be from 3 until 5 p.m. Sunday at
Peasley Funeral Home. Masonic services at 5 p.m.
will follow the visitation. His funeral will be at
10 a.m. Monday at Peasley Funeral Home.
Burial, with military rites, will be in Zion
Cemetery, rural Lincoln.
Mr. Gaffney retired from Cilco as an engineer.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was born July 6, 1918, in Lincoln to Patrick
and Frances Werschey Gaffney. He first married Helen
Barrick; she preceded him in death in 1977. He later
married Betty Andrae on April 1, 1978.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years; two sons,
Tom Gaffney of Connecticut and Cary Gaffney of South
Carolina, a stepson, Jim Springer of Lincoln; a
stepdaughter, Diana Hilligos of Arizona; three
grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and seven
step-great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one sister and
five brothers.
He was a member of American Legion Post 263 and
Lincoln Masonic Lodge 210.
In his retirement years he entertained at local
nursing homes throughout central Illinois.
