NORMAL -- Illinois State's
Kye Stewart earned another weekly accolade on Thursday, when the
junior linebacker was named a Football Gazette National Player of
the Week after his 17-tackle performance against then-ranked No. 7
Southern Illinois.

Stewart and the Redbird defense held the nation's No. 2-scoring
offense to a season-low point total in Illinois State's 37-10
victory over SIU. Of Stewart's 17 tackles, seven were solo stops,
and he added a quarterback sack. Stewart, who earned the Gateway
Football Conference's Defensive Player of the Week honor and was
named an I-AA.org All-Star this past week, now ranks No. 2
nationally among I-AA defenders, with 13 tackles per game. He is the
second Redbird to receive the weekly honor from the Football
Gazette, joining fellow linebacker, Cameron Siskowic, who received
the award on Sept. 18.
The Redbirds return to action on Saturday, when ISU travels to
Macomb to face Western Illinois. Kickoff is at 1:05 p.m.
