[OCT. 30, 2006]  HARTSBURG -- Byron H. Janssen, 85, of Hartsburg died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2006, at 5:25 a.m. at St. Clara's Manor in Lincoln.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, at the United Methodist Church of Hartsburg. His funeral will follow at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Julie Azbell officiating.

Burial will be in Hartsburg Union Cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled by Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Mr. Janssen was manager of the Hartsburg Grain, Coal and Lumber Company for 39 years. He was also an independent insurance agent.

He was a World War II veteran of the 829 Army Signal Corps in the European Theater.

He was born Oct. 20, 1921, in Logan County to John and Frances Hardin Janssen. He married Marian Reiners on June 27, 1948, in Emden.

He is survived by his wife, of Emden; two sons, Dale (and Paula) Janssen of Homer Glen and Larry (and Peggy) Janssen of Stillwater, Minn.; and six grandchildren.

Two brothers, Dale and Lester, preceded him in death.

He was a member of the Hartsburg United Methodist Church and Hartsburg American Legion. He was instrumental in forming the Hartsburg Fire Department and was the first assistant fire chief.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the donor's choice.
