'Back to Mayberry' fall classes continue          Send a link to a friend

[SEPT. 14, 2006]  Lincoln Hill Methodist Church has started a new study in the award-winning "Back to Mayberry" series. The Sept. 10 class was called "The Horse Trader." Sessions are open to all. The classes are on Sunday evenings at 6:30 in the white building at the corner of College and Seventh streets.

Refreshments are provided and friends welcomed for a lively discussion and a laugh or two.

Fall lectureship theme announced: 'Evil and the Cross of Christ'

[AUG. 31, 2006]  Lincoln Christian College and Seminary is pleased to announce that Dr. Paul Copan, Pledger Family Chair of Philosophy and Ethics at Palm Beach  Atlantic University and president of the Evangelical Philosophical Society, will present the annual James D. Strauss Lectures on Oct. 3 and 4. Copan will deliver three lectures under the theme "Evil and the Cross of Christ."

The times, titles and locations of the lectureship activities are as follows:

Oct. 3

  • 9:30 a.m. -- "The Perplexing Problem of Evil"; Earl C Hargrove Chapel Auditorium

  • 10:30 a.m. -- Coffee and cookie bar and book signing; campus bookstore

  • Noon -- Brown-bag lunch with question-and-answer session; The Warehouse

  • 7 p.m. -- "Divine Hiddenness and the Problem of Hell"; Restoration Hall, R49

Oct. 4

  • 9:30 a.m. -- "Original Sin and the Cross of Christ"; Earl C Hargrove Chapel Auditorium

Copan has a doctorate in philosophy from Marquette University and has authored and co-authored books from Bethany House, Baker, Chalice Press and other publishing houses. Among his writings are "True for You, But Not for Me"; "That's Just Your Interpretation"; "How Do You Know You're Not Wrong?"; "What Is God That We Are Mindful of Him?" forthcoming from Chalice Press; and "Creation Out of Nothing: A Biblical, Philosophical, and Scientific Exploration," co-authored with William Lane Craig. Copen has co-edited three books on the historical Jesus and three other titles relating to the philosophy of religion: "The Rationality of Theism"; "The Routledge Companion to Philosophy of Religion," forthcoming from Routledge; and "Philosophy of Religion: Classic and Contemporary Issues," forthcoming from Blackwell. He has also contributed a number of articles to various professional journals.

Copan and his wife, Jacqueline, have five children: Johanna, Peter, Valerie, Kristen and Jonathan. They reside in West Palm Beach, Fla.

The public is warmly invited to attend the lectureship free of charge.
