[August 07, 2007]  John Charles Britt, 72, of Lincoln died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007, at 11:59 a.m. at his home.

His funeral was at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln, with Raymond Pech officiating. Visitation was one hour prior to the service.

Burial is in Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield.

Mr. Britt was a Logan County correctional officer.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1965.

He was born Aug. 27, 1934, in Smithfield, Pa., to William and Rebecca Brownfield Britt. He married Shirley Brest on June 3, 1956, in Lincoln.

He is survived by his wife, of Lincoln; three sons, Lyle (and Mary) Britt of Peoria, John Charles (and Joyce) Britt II of Bloomington and Lloyd Earl of Eustis City, Fla.; one daughter, Rebecca Kathryn Tripplet of Springfield; one brother, William Britt of Salt Lake City, Utah; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses of Lincoln.
