MOUNT PULASKI -- Duane E. Copeland, 82,
of Mount Pulaski died Friday, Aug. 10, 2007, at 6:50 p.m. at
Vonderlieth Living Center.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski. His funeral
will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with Dr. Marion
Henderson officiating. |
Burial, with military rites, will be in Steenbergen
Cemetery. Mr. Copeland farmed for 50 years in
Logan and Sangamon County.
He served with the U.S. Navy in the Philippines
during World War II.
He was born Nov. 27, 1924, in Mount Pulaski to
Donald C. and Helen Haynes Copeland. He married Rue
Evelyn McKinley in Chestnut on Dec. 28, 1947.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years; one son,
Michael (and Susie) Copeland of Kenney; two
daughters, Judy (and Brian) Piersma of Sherman and
Barbara Elaine Aumiller of Wheaton; two brothers,
Sheldon Copeland of Bloomington and Bill Copeland of
Granbury, Texas; three sisters, Mryna Hanlin of
Bloomington, Glenda Copeland of Shreveport, La., and
Joyce Vondrak of Des Plaines; eight grandchildren,
B.J., Kinney and Michael Aumiller of Wheaton, Andy
(and Jennifer) Copeland of Mahomet, Jason Copeland
of Champaign, Kelly Copeland of Mount Pulaski, Derek
Piersma of Springfield and Kristin (and Lt. Andrew)
Myatt of Westerville, Ohio; and two
great-grandchildren, Gavin and Emma Rue Myatt of
Westerville, Ohio.
He was a member of Lincoln Christian Church. |
His hobbies were music and working with wood. He was
involved in different areas of music, playing
trombone in the high school and Legion bands,
singing in church and community choirs, and serving
as worship leader in the church. His favorite was
singing with the Greater Decatur Chorale for 14
years. He made many different items of furniture for
family and friends and for the Lincoln Christian
Church Harvest of Talents, where the money was
donated to International Disaster Emergency Service.
Memorials may be made to the Jolly Seniors of
Lincoln Christian Church or Mount Pulaski American
Legion Post 447.
