Mr. Ryman, 87, died Aug. 12, 2007, at 11:30 a.m. at
the Christian Village. He was a retired history
and social studies school teacher. He had taught for
35 years at Lincoln Community High School.
He served in the Coast Guard for two years in the
South Pacific.
He was born Jan. 6, 1920, in Knox County, Mo., to
Frank and Goldie Farmer Ryman. He married Helen
Graff on Nov. 29, 1946, in Bloomington, Ind. She
preceded him in death on July 16, 1994.
He is survived by six nieces, Mary (and Ron)
Tastula of Fort Myers, Fla., Linda (and Chuck) Gray
of Kennedale, Texas, Jan (and Jim) Gerlack of
Reedsburg, Wis., Barb (and David) Smith of Lakewood
Ranch, Fla., Beverly Lafelaette of Elmwood and Sally
Stahl of Ellsinore, Mo.; and his caregiver, Cindy
Marcotte of Lincoln.
One brother and one sister preceded him in death.
He was a member of the Unitarian Universal Church
in Bloomington and the national and Illinois
teachers' retirement associations. |
He was a baseball coach at LCHS for a number of
years.
He graduated from Illinois State University and
received his master's degree from Indiana
University.
Memorials may be made to the John F. and Helen G.
Ryman Scholarship Fund at Illinois State University.
