[August 25, 2007]  (AP) Cooler air is expected to push into the Great Lakes region and northern part of the upper Mississippi Valley on Saturday, as a front that brought rains to the Midwest moves to the south and east through the weekend.

As the front moves, it is expected to push intense rain and thunderstorms toward the eastern seaboard. Rain is likely in parts of the Northeast by evening. Showers are possible for the Ohio Valley, but they should diminish by evening.

Showers and thunderstorms are also expected in Florida, Arizona and New Mexico, and light showers are forecast for Washington.

Temperatures in the Southeast, Southwest and southern Plains are expected to be in the 90s and 100s, while they are expected to hover in the 70s, 80s and 90s in the Northeast and Northwest.

Temperatures in the lower 48 states Friday ranged from a low of 29 degrees at West Yellowstone, Mont., to a high of 118 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
