[December 10, 2007]  A Granite City woman lost her life in a crash Saturday evening on Interstate 155 near Lincoln. Katy Carrigan, 35, had been visiting family in Peoria. She was southbound at milepost marker 8 on I-155 at approximately 8 p.m. Saturday when the 2001 Saturn she was driving ran off the paved portion of the interstate and rolled.

Carrigan was the only occupant. She was ejected from the vehicle.

She was transported to Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital, where she died from injuries.

Logan County Coroner Bob Thomas said an autopsy revealed that Carrigan lost a large amount of blood from lacerations to her skull and liver. Cause of death was due to blunt force trauma to the body related to a motor vehicle collision.

Carrigan leaves behind an 18-year-old son and family in Peoria.

The Illinois State Police, Logan County Sheriff's Department and Logan County Paramedics attended the scene.
