[December 18, 2007]  NORMAL -- Sophomore forward Ashleen Bracey is enjoying the best four-game stretch of her career, and her effort has been recognized by the Missouri Valley Conference. Bracey was named the Valley Player of the Week on Monday, based on her performance in ISU's win over Miami (Ohio) on Sunday. It was the first honor of Bracey's career and the first for a Redbird this season.

Bracey recorded her third double-double in the last four games, with 16 points and a career-high 11 rebounds against the RedHawks. She is the first Redbird to have that many double-doubles in such a short stretch since Kenyatta Shelton had four double-doubles in five games in 2006-07. It was her fourth consecutive game with at least seven made field goals and at least nine rebounds. Bracey scored 10 points in the first half during a 34-10 Redbird run that turned a 10-9 deficit into a 43-20 lead.

Over the last four games, Bracey is averaging a double-double with 16.0 ppg and 10.0 rpg, both tops on the team, while shooting 63.3 percent from the field. She has a team-best 31 field goals during that stretch, while the teammate closest to her, junior guard Kristi Cirone, has 19. The Oak Park native leads the Valley in field goal percentage (.550) and is second in rebounding (8.3 rpg) and tied for 22nd in scoring (10.2 ppg).

The Redbirds continue to lead the Valley, with an 8-1 record, the second-best start in program history. The Redbirds' eight wins so far in nonconference play make a school single-season record. ISU has the top-scoring offense in the Valley (77.9 ppg) and leads the conference in field goal percentage (.477), 3-point field goal percentage (.477), rebounding margin (plus 6.1), assists (19.8 apg) and assists-to-turnover ratio (1.35).

Illinois State returns home for the first time in nearly three weeks to host Western Illinois (3-6) on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m.
