Edward Nikles

[December 19, 2007]  Edward J. Nikles, 82, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2007, at 9:40 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Karen Diefendorf officiating.

Mr. Nikles retired from Myers Industries, where he worked as a salesman for J.C. Penney's store fixtures and as a customer service manager.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was born June 27, 1925, at Fordyce, Neb., to Joseph and Elizabeth Peiper Nikles. He married Olive "Tim" Twiss on Nov. 8, 1947, in Sioux City, Iowa.

He is survived by his wife, of Lincoln; one son, Brad (and Barb) Nikles of Lincoln; one daughter, Vicki (Gerald) Hamm of Elkhart; one sister, Nellie Krause of Wyoming, Mich.; one granddaughter; two stepgrandsons; and one step-great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Ben, Harold, Al and Butch; and one sister, Penny.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lincoln, Lincoln Elks Lodge 914 and American Legion Post 263.

Memorials may be made in his memory in honor of his granddaughter Kate Nikles' involvement with the Humane Society of Logan County.
