[FEB. 15, 2007]  MOUNT PULASKI -- John W. Holmes, 87, of Mount Pulaski died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2007, at 11:50 a.m. at Vonderlieth Living Center.

His body was cremated and a memorial service will be scheduled later.

Burial will be in Steenbergen Cemetery, rural Mount Pulaski.

Arrangements are by Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Mr. Holmes was a retired golf course superintendent and farmer.

He served in the U.S. Army and Merchant Marines during World War II.

He was born March 15, 1920, in Logan County to Obed Everett and Mae Sallee Holmes. He married Dolly L. Fulk on Aug. 8, 1950, in Mount Pulaski. She preceded him in death on Oct. 12, 1989.

He is survived by one son, Everett (and Vickie) Holmes of Princeton; one daughter, Shewan "Tootie" Holmes of Mount Pulaski; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Everett Holmes, and two sisters, Marilyn Troyer and Evelyn Holmes. He was the last of his immediate family.

Memorials may be made to the Mount Pulaski Food Pantry or CIEDC homemaker program.
