Seminary lectureship: 'Human Suffering and Pastoral Presence'   Send a link to a friend

[FEB. 8, 2007]  A lectureship at Lincoln Christian College and Seminary on Feb. 21 will feature Dr. Diane Langberg. The theme is "Human Suffering and Pastoral Presence."

Diane Langberg, Ph.D., is a practicing psychologist whose clinical expertise includes 35 years of working with trauma survivors and clergy. She speaks internationally on topics related to women, trauma, ministry and the Christian life.

Feb. 21 schedule:

  • 9:30 a.m. -- Lecture 1: "Scenes from a Counselor's Life: A Journey into the Heart of God"

  • Noon -- Q & A lunch session

  • 2:30 p.m. -- Lecture 2: "Ministry in the Midst of Sexual Abuse"

The 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. sessions will be in the seminary building, Restoration Hall, R-49, and the question-and-answer session at noon will be in the LCCS cafeteria.

The lectureship is free and open to the public.

The seminary lectureship this year is being co-sponsored by Christian Homes Inc. of Lincoln.

Langberg is director of a group practice in suburban Philadelphia, Pa., staffed by Christian psychologists, social workers and counselors. She is also a faculty member of Westminster Theological Seminary.

She is the author of "Counsel for Pastor's Wives," published by Zondervan; "Counseling Survivors of Sexual Abuse," from Xulon Press; and "On the Threshold of Hope: Opening the Door to Healing for Survivors of Sexual Abuse," from Tyndale House. She is a columnist for Christian Counseling Today and contributes to many other publications.

She is chair of the executive board of the American Association of Christian Counselors and serves on the boards of Ministry Wives Network International, Godly Response to Abuse in a Christian Environment and the Society for Christian Psychology. She is also the founder of The Place of Refuge, an inner-city, nonprofit trauma and training center.

Langberg is the recipient of the Distinguished Alumna for Professional Achievement from Taylor University, the Caregiver Award from the American Association of Christian Counselors and the Philadelphia Council of Clergy's Christian Service Award.

She is married and has two sons.
