[February 20, 2007]  ST. LOUIS -- For the sixth time this season and the second time by junior Anthony Slack, an Illinois State basketball player has walked away with the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week honor.

In a pair of Redbird victories last week, Slack served as a spark coming off the Illinois State bench. The Coffeyville Community College transfer averaged 11 points and 6.5 rebounds in the wins at Indiana State and over Ball State.

The New Orleans, La., native shot 10-for-16 from the field, or 62.5 percent, while leading the team with four blocked shots.

As previously mentioned, this is Slack's second honor as newcomer of the week, while Boo Richardson earned the award three times and Dom Johnson once.
