[JAN. 15, 2007]  George C. Maurer, 94, of Lincoln died Friday, Jan. 12, 2007, at Maple Ridge Care Centre.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Faith Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Burial will be in New Union Cemetery.

Holland Barry and Bennett Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Mr. Maurer was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Lincoln and was retired from Caterpillar.

He was born Dec. 24, 1912, in Logan County to George W. and Rose Gehre Maurer. He married Ruth Spitzbarth on July 31, 1939, in St. Louis, Mo.

He is survived by his wife, of Lincoln; two sons, James (and Ann) Maurer of Rockford and Edward Maurer of Dayton, Ohio; one daughter, Virginia Smith of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; one grandson, Chris Maurer of Rockford; and two great-grandchildren, Randi and Abbie Maurer, both of Rockford.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Carl Maurer, and three sisters, Vera Mittelstadt, Dalores Kammueller and Dorothea Ingram.

He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Lincoln.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to his church.
