13-14s baseball          Send a link to a friend

[July 13, 2007]  With an 11-4 victory over Mount Pulaski on Wednesday evening, Wal-Mart (10-6) earned its way into the 13-14-year-old championship game against top-seeded Hartsburg. (AP) --

Tanner Smith (4-2), Hayden Matson, Corey Janssen and Austin Jones combined on a two-hitter for Wal-Mart. Besides two innings on the mound where he allowed no runs, Matson starred at the plate also, reaching base and scoring all three times he batted. He had two hits and two RBIs as well. Jones had two hits and three RBIs. Smith, Janssen, Luke Donath and Zach Schleder also had hits. Jake Olson scored two runs for Wal-Mart.

Hartsburg fought off a tough Leake Antennae team 7-3 in the other semifinal game, played in Hartsburg. Leake had defeated Mount Pulaski 12-5 earlier in the evening at the Rec Center in Lincoln behind the pitching of Austin Kirby and Will Conrady (completing a game begun the night before and halted by rain). Leake Antennae is to be commended for a good season and a strong finish to put them in third place.

The championship game of the 13-14-year-old baseball tournament will be played Friday evening at 6.
