Earl McRoberts

[July 26, 2007]  ATLANTA -- Earl L. McRoberts, 83, of Atlanta died Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at 3:25 p.m. at Hopedale Medical Center in Hopedale.

A memorial service for Mr. McRoberts will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Quiram Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta, with Tony Billingsley officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

Inurnment will be in Atlanta Cemetery, with military rites.

Mr. McRoberts retired from Olympia High School Unit 16, where he worked in the maintenance department.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was in the Battle of the Bulge.

He was born Oct. 29, 1923, in Lincoln to Elisha V. and Cora Jane Landreth McRoberts. He married Frances Hafley on June 4, 1944, in Atlanta. She preceded him in death on Aug. 8, 1995, in Hopedale.

He is survived by one daughter, Vicki (and husband Paul) Eckert of Atlanta; three sons, Terry (and Carol) McRoberts of Fayetteville, Ark., Kenny McRoberts of Atlanta and Randy McRoberts of Peoria Heights; one sister, Donnie Lucas of Urbana; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by six sisters and four brothers.

He graduated from Bradley University

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to either the Atlanta Rescue Squad or the Atlanta Public Library.
