Heat Bronco team wins 2 of 4 in Statesman tourney

[June 06, 2007]  SPRINGFIELD -- The Lincoln Heat Bronco team played in the Statesman Tournament over the weekend.

In the first round, the Heat played the Chatham Steel. Lincoln had several opportunities but ended up losing the game 5-4 in the ninth inning. Brent Hunsley pitched 6 1/3 innings, striking out four and giving up only one earned run. Colby Leith went 2-4 with a double and two RBIs.

They then faced the Springfield Bobcats in what ended up being an ugly game. The Heat lost 13-3. Dane Eimer and Colby Leith each went 1-1 with an RBI.

Sunday started off a lot better for the Heat. They played FYAA and won 11-0. Tate Gordon pitched a complete game shutout, striking out seven and walking just one. Tate Gordon, Ryan Sloan and Brent Hunsley each had two hits in the game. Brent Hunsley had an inside-the-park home run.

The Heat played Collinsville Crush in their final game of the tournament. Will Podbelsek was the winning pitcher. Collin Antoine, Will Podbelsek, Colby Leith and Max Cook each had a couple of hits. Brent Hunsley had three hits and Tate Gordon had two triples.

The Heat are home Wednesday versus the Bloomington Renegades, away Thursday versus Olympia, and away Friday versus the McLean County Vipers.
