Free pond management seminar          Send a link to a friend

[June 20, 2007]  CLINTON -- The DeWitt County Soil and Water Conservation District invites members of the general public who are interested in pond or lake management to attend a free seminar and demonstration on June 26 at 6:15 p.m. The pond is located one-half mile west of Clinton on Kleeman Drive.

Shelley Finfrock of the DeWitt County SWCD said, "This is a great opportunity to get answers to questions that pond owners have, plus the electro fishing demonstration is pretty entertaining."

Mike Garthaus, fish biologist with the Illinois Department of Natural Recourses, will be the main presenter. He will talk about weed control in your pond, proper fish stocking rates and much more. He will also demonstrate an electro fishing technique used by IDNR fish biologists to determine what is in a pond.

Dave Shiley, natural resources management educator with the University of Illinois Cooperative Extension, will also be on hand to talk about management around the pond.

Rain date for the seminar is June 27.

For more information and complete directions to the pond site, please call the DeWitt County SWCD at 217-935-6504, ext 3.
