After a one-hour rain delay, the final round of the tournament at Red Tail Run Golf Club in Decatur got off to a welcome start.

Hilary Anderson, who twice won the Junior Girls' State Amateur Championship (2001, 2003), faced off against Kerry Postillion, four-time State Am champion (1995, 1996, 1999, 2004).

In the championship match, Postillion and Anderson tied the first two holes. Postillion was 1-up after the third and advanced to 2-up after she birdied the fifth hole. Anderson won the sixth hole when she made par and Postillion made bogey. Both drove their tee shots into the bunker off the seventh tee. Anderson's ball was deeply plugged in the sand, and it took two shots for her to get out of the bunker. Postillion then went 2-up. Anderson bounced back on the eighth when Postillion made bogey on the hole and Anderson made par. Postillion recovered on the ninth hole to go 2-up after she birdied the hole when she sunk a long putt from the fringe.

Postillion stayed ahead on the back nine, winning the championship on the 15th hole 5 and 3.

Two flight matches went extra holes. In the fourth flight Kathy Niepagen of Bloomington went 1-up on the 19th hole to best Jackie Schwarz of McHenry, and in the first flight final Moncia Von Glahn went 1-up on 19 to outlast DeAnne Stolarik.

About IWGA

Founded in 1933, the IWGA is an all-volunteer organization devoted to advancing golf opportunities for the women and girls of Illinois by conducting state championship tournaments and through fundraising to support charitable contributions to individual and organizations that embody the spirit of amateur golf.

In addition to running three state championship tournaments each year, IWGA, through its charitable giving, awards grants to women's golf teams at all seven public universities in Illinois as well as the Evans Scholars Fund. IWGA continues to aid its original charity -- golf programs at veterans hospitals -- and contributes to other significant charities throughout the state. IWGA supports breast cancer research nationally and statewide, through the Susan G. Komen Fund and the Mills Breast Cancer Institute in Urbana, respectively. IWGA awards the Julia Dodds Scholarship to an outstanding junior golfer and leader.

Funding for these and other charitable contributions comes primarily from clubs and associations that sponsor an annual Victory Tournament. Grants totaled more than $23,000 in 2006.

Names of IWGA board members, past tournament results and entry forms for all tournaments are available at www.iwga.org.
