Joseph Kattelman

[June 26, 2007]  Joseph Edward Kattelman, 82, of Lincoln died Monday, June 25, 2007, at 4:55 a.m. at the Christian Village Nursing Home.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Ryan Edgecomb officiating.

Burial, with military rites, will be in New Union Cemetery.

Mr. Kattelman was employed by GTE for 35 years and retired as district manager.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received a Purple Heart.

He was born Nov. 2, 1924, in Quincy to William Conrad and Josephine Meyer Kattelman. He married Laura Mae Sashdate on June 29, 1947, in Pittsfield. She preceded him in death on Dec. 18, 1996.

He is survived by three daughters, Mona Bishop of Lincoln, Sandy (and Damon) Dutz of Mankato, Minn., and Laura (and Jim) Raycraft of Williamsville; one son, Mark (and Angie) Kattelman of Normal; three brothers, Robert (and Norma) Kattelman of Pittsfield, Jim (and Carol) Kattelman of Iowa and Tom (and Mary) Kattelman of Bethalto; two sisters, Laverta Scheiter of Quincy and Betty Yokum of Iowa; eight great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.

He was a member of American Legion Post 263.

He graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1942.
