The Lincoln/Logan County Chamber of Commerce
will sponsor its eighth annual Ag Day Breakfast on March 21 at 7
a.m. The event, to take place in the Laughlin Center on the campus
of Lincoln Christian College and Seminary, is part of the National
Agriculture Week observance.

Keynote speaker for
the event is agricultural humorist Dick Burns, a 1973 University
of Illinois agriculture graduate. He is a regional sales manager
for Burrus Seed and raises purebred Angus cattle. He is married
to Colleen Callahan, an agricultural communications expert. They
live on a farm near Kickapoo and have one daughter, Brittney,
who is a law student at DePaul University.
The highlight of the breakfast will be the announcement of
the 2007 Ag Day Scholarship winners. A total of $9,000 in
scholarships will be awarded to Logan County students who are
studying agriculture, particularly those interested in returning
to Logan County. The awards this year bring the running total of
scholarship dollars awarded through the chamber's Ag Day
Breakfast to $34,000.

Dave Irwin, chairman of the chamber's Ag Day Committee,
emphasizes that the scholarship program and breakfast for the
community would not be possible without the generous support of
local businesses. Attendees will receive a keepsake canvas tote bag
listing the names of the sponsors. Recognition will also take place
on souvenir placemats, vendor tables, promotional giveaways and a
PowerPoint slide presentation.
There is no charge to attend the breakfast, but a reservation is
required. RSVPs must be received prior to 5 p.m. Monday and may be
made by calling 217-735-2385.
